What To Do When Your Instant Pot Stopped Working

We all expect our tools to work consistently, but with modern technology comes modern, complicated problems.  If you are finding that your Instant Pot has stopped working, and you’re looking for a little advice on what that is, take a look below for some of the most common issues and how to take care of them to get it back up and running again.

1. The Instant Pot won’t seal or build pressure

The steam part of the cooker is the essential detail to get right. There are a few reasons that it might not be building pressure.  Common examples are that the sealing ring is not properly in place with the pot and should be checked, food is stuck at the bottom of the inner pot, and it is detecting a problem, there isn’t enough liquid in the pot to build the pressure, or the vent is depressed to prevent the steam from building up.

2. The float valve is stuck in the “up” position

Firstly, make sure that it is actually stuck. It may just look like it’s stuck up when it is already depressed.  This is especially so if you’ve recently switched from one model to another.  If it is certainly stuck, you’ll want to properly clean it out, as it could just be residue and food build-up.

3. The pot won’t turn on

If it seems as though your Instant Pot stopped working and just don’t turn on, the troubleshooting is particularly simple. Firstly, make sure that you’ve plugged the pot into the wall. Yes, seriously.  Jiggle the cord from its connection in the pot as well las the outlet to double-check there are no weak links.  If that doesn’t work, try another outlet.  If it still doesn’t turn on, consider taking it to a specialist to make sure that the fuse inside hasn’t been tripped.

4. The pot keeps beeping

Just like an oven, the Instant Pot will beep as it moves through different stages in its cycle. Each time it beeps, check what the screen says.  It might just be adjusting temperatures as instructed.  If it just keeps beeping, perhaps the timer ran out, or the lid isn’t closed correctly, or there’s another issue.  The beeping is always intended as a note for your to check on it, so make sure you keep that in mind.

5. Steam is leaking out of the Instant Pot

When steam is randomly leaking out of the pot, it’s because there is an issue with the sealing ring. Check to make sure there are no cracks or gaps in its installation. If it is trenched out or deformed, put it in the freezer to help it shrink back to size.  If the ring is broken or severely misshapen, you’ll want to replace it.
