Power Pressure Cooker XL vs Pressure King Pro

Electric multifunction pressure cookers are famous around the world, and although these are all manufactured in China, some models are more prevalent in certain countries than others. The King Pro Pressure cooker is popular in the UK but does not seem to be as widespread in the USA. The Power Pressure Cooker XL, by contrast, is mainly aimed at the US market. We check out the Power Pressure Cooker XL vs Pressure King Pro to find out more.

Power Pressure Cooker XL

The Power Pressure Cooker XL is popular in the USA and Canada and has generated over 3,400 customer reviews on Amazon alone. It is easy to see why. This pressure cooker offers a lot to customers, and there are plenty of added extras to tempt you into buying.

The Power Pressure Cooker XL is available in three sizes; 6qt, 8qt, and 10qt, so this pressure cooker will suit you if you are looking for a large size. However, 6qt is the most popular sized model. You can also choose the color because it comes in silver, copper, red or blue finish so it will look good in your kitchen.

The pressure cooker provides an impressive array of cooking options. You can use it as a slow cooker, steamer, and rice maker. The pressure cooking function has one-touch settings enabling you to cook different recipes very easily, such as soup/stew, beans/lentils, chicken/meat. The sauté function is conveniently situated at the center of the control interface, which is good as most of us use this function so often. There is a warmer function, delay/timer, and the pressure is fully controllable if you want to make your own decisions regarding pressure and cooking time.

The one aspect that sets the Power Pressure Cooker XL apart from many others on the market is that you can use this for canning. Very few pressure cookers, including most Instant Pot models, are not suitable for canning, and many people have bought the Power XL for this reason. We checked out the user manual, and to be honest, the information was not very helpful or detailed, so don’t expect much guidance about this. However, if you are experienced in canning, the Power XL offers you a relatively inexpensive way to do it. Also, you do get the added advantages of the other functions.

The downside about the Power Pressure XL is that it has generated numerous customer complaints. Many customers are critical of the user manual – the print is tiny, and there is not much information.

The customer service department has also been criticized as unhelpful, and there are complaints about reliability and construction. The inner pot is coated in a non-stick Teflon material, and many customers report that this has flaked off in the food after only a few uses.

It is frustrating that this otherwise good looking pressure cooker that can do so much is let down by shoddy construction and lousy customer care.

Pros

  • You can use it for canning
  • Available worldwide
  • A good looking kitchen appliance that does a lot

Cons

  • The user manual is inadequate
  • The inner pot is coated in Teflon which many customers say comes off during cooking
  • Customer service department not very helpful.

Pressure King Pro

The Pressure King Pro is on sale mainly in the UK. It comes from British company Drew and Cole, so it is stocked by British based companies such as Currys. The Pressure King Pro is also on sale via Amazon UK, although not Amazon USA, so it mainly seems to be aimed at the UK market.

It is available in 5-liter size (which by our calculations is equal to 6qt), small 3-liter size, and the 6-liter model, and according to the advertising can cook up to 90% faster than conventional cooking. A claim we find hard to believe.

That said, the Pressure King Pro can perform all the usual multifunctions we have come to expect from these electric multifunction appliances. You can use it as a slow cooker. There is a sauté function, browning function, a warmer, a 24-hour timer delay setting, and a reheat button. Pressure cooking looks easy with 12 preset programs, and it comes with a free recipe book aimed at the UK market.

Safety-wise we like that this pressure cooker includes an audible alarm that sounds if the lid is not sealed correctly.

Although the Pressure King Pro looks to be an excellent multifunction appliance, there are some issues. Many customers have complained about the non-stick coating of the inner pot flaking off in the food. Besides, there does seem to a high percentage of customer complaints about technical issues such as the pressure cooker simply not working after a few uses. That said, not everyone has experienced problems, and around 71% of customers rated this pressure cooker highly, giving it 5-star reviews on Amazon.

Overall we have found the advertising for the Pressure King Pro confusing. According to this, the 6-liter model can perform 20 functions, but these are not named. The smaller model – the 5-liter one is supposed to carry out 12 features, but again these are not described. If the user’s manual is anything like the advertisement, you can expect to be confused!

Pros

  • We like the audible lid alarm that sounds when the lid is not closed correctly
  • Suitable for UK customers to have a UK based recipe book
  • Many people like this pressure cooker.

Cons

  • The product information is confusing
  • Many people have experienced technical issues
  • No money-back guarantee or warranty

In conclusion

These two pressure cookers look very different. The Pressure King is aimed mainly at people new to pressure cooking in the UK, whereas the Power Pressure Cooker XL is aimed at more experienced users in the USA.  Unfortunately, both are let down to shoddy construction and issues with the coating of the inner pot flaking off into the food as well as inadequate product information.

When it comes to judging the Power Pressure Cooker XL vs Pressure King Pro, we feel these are pretty evenly matched. They are aimed at different users, and yet they both are let down by similar failings.
