Pressure Cooker Clams

Clams are a nutritious type of seafood that is tasty too, and you can make pressure cooker clams in just a few minutes. You can usually buy clams all year long. They provide protein, as well as nutrients like iron, vitamins like A, C, and B-12, as well as potassium and selenium, and vital omega-three fats.

It’s not hard to cook clams in a pressure cooker or Instant Pot. You just need a few ingredients and a few minutes of your time. Here’s a quick and delicious recipe for cooking clams in a pressure cooker:

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of fresh clams
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 medium-sized white onion; peeled & chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic; peeled & smashed
  • ½ cup of dry white wine
  • ½ cup of water

Directions

Firstly, heat up the olive oil in your pressure cooker without a lid on it and do so using medium-high heat. Then add in the onions and garlic. Sauté the mixture for about five minutes until it gets soft.

Pour the clams into a steamer basket. Next, put in the white wine, then place the steamer basket in the pressure cooker. Then, close the lid and lock it.

Put the heat on high. Once your pressure cooker gets to the proper pressure, the heat should be lowered as needed to keep the pressure stable. The clams should be cooked for between 4 and 6 minutes at high-pressure setting.

Once done, carefully open your pressure cooker by releasing pressure. Then take out the steamer basket, pour the clams back into your pressure cooker and mix it up good. Serve with some of the liquid left from cooking. This serves about 6 people.

Different types of clams

Depending on the condition of the clams, they are cooked in a pressure cooker in different ways. The above recipe is used for fresh clams. If the clams are frozen in the shell, you can use the same directions you used for fresh clams. However, if they don’t include the shells, they should be unthawed in the refrigerator for 24 hours or unthawed by putting them in a sink and running some cold water over them. Then you strain the clams and cook as usual. If you are using clams in a can or jar, you should strain them over a dish and then use as needed.

All in all, when you pressure cook clams, you are in for a fast and easy way to make your dinner special!
