The Breville air fryers are designed with two-in-one functionality as they are designed with a convection fan. The air fryers are designed to offer higher control over cooking. In addition, they are designed with the Element iQ system, which promises maximum cooking performance.
However, some people have complained about the performance issues. So, with this article, we are sharing common Breville air fryer problems as well as their solutions.
All the Common Breville Air Fryer Problems
- Air Fryer Is Not Working
If your air fryer is not turning on at all, it’s usually caused by power issues. However, before you check the power connections, make sure you check the basket and ensure proper placement.
This is because when the basket isn’t fitted in properly, the air fryer won’t turn on as a safety mechanism. However, if the air fryer is already positioned properly, but the air fryer isn’t working, we are sharing other solutions;
- Bad Outlet
An outlet is important as it powers up the air fryer. So, if the air fryer isn’t working, you must check the power outlet and make sure it’s working.
Ideally, you should connect your air fryer to another outlet, and if it turns on, you have to change the outlet. Keep in mind that a non-functional outlet not only fails to turn on the air fryer but also trips the circuit breakers.
- Power Cord
If the outlet is working properly, the second step is to check the power cord. This is because the power cord helps transmit the power signals from the outlet to the air fryer unit.
So, if the power cord is loose or damaged, the power connection will be interrupted, and you won’t be able to use the air fryer.
The loose power cord can be tightened up, but a damaged one has to be replaced. To prevent damage to the power cord, you should keep it straight and untangle at all times.
- Thermal Fuse
A thermal fuse is responsible for identifying if the unit is overheating. When the air fryer overheats, the thermal fuse blows out on its own to prevent permanent damage to the appliance.
However, when the thermal fuse blows out, the power connection will be interrupted. So, just check the thermal fuse, and if it’s black, you have to get it replaced.
- Lingering Food Smell
If you open the air fryer’s lid and the old food’s smell is lingering, it’s likely that you haven’t cleaned the air fryer’s basket properly. The simple solution is to take out the basket and clean it properly.
The majority of Breville air fryer models have a dishwasher-safe basket, so just take it out of the unit and wash it. However, you can also wash it with a mild dishwashing liquid (don’t use harsh cleaners because they can damage the surface of the basket).
- Smoking
It can be alarming to see smoke coming out of the air fryer, but it’s not a severe problem. This is because it happens when there is excessive oil on the bottom of the air fryer. If you can stop the cooking cycle, it’s recommended that you take out food from the basket and clean the excess oil.
On the other hand, if you cannot pause the cooking process, we recommend that you put a slice of bread as it can suck up excess oil. Keep in mind that the long-term solution is to remove food from the basket and wash the basket.
- Food Is Burning
In most cases, the burnt food issue happens with a new air fryer or if you follow the oven recipes in your air fryer. The only solution to this problem is to check the food while cooking to make sure the food isn’t burnt or overcooked.
In addition, it’s recommended that you follow the instructions and cooking time of the recipes properly. Secondly, it’s recommended that you lubricate the food with an oil spray.
- Food Keeps Flying In The Air Fryer
The air fryer works by pumping hot air into the basket as it helps put pressure on the food. For this reason, the food might fly. In addition, the thin food pieces can also fly.
In simpler words, it’s common for food to fly in the air fryer. To fix this issue, we recommend that you use a second wire rack on top of the foot holder to keep the food in place.
- LCD Display Light Is Turned Off
In most cases, the LCD light turns off when your air fryer is in standby mode. The air fryer gets into standby mode when it’s not used for ten minutes.
So, all you’ve to do is to reactivate your oven by pressing the start/stop button on the air fryer, and the LCD display light will turn on.
- Basket Gets Too Hot
Another common issue associated with the Breville air fryer is that the basket gets too hot. In most cases, it happens when the heating element is damaged – a damaged heating element either doesn’t turn on or gets too hot.
So, it’s recommended that you turn off the air fryer when the basket gets too hot and get the heating element checked. If a heating element is damaged, the long-term solution is to get it replaced.
- Unable To Use The Frozen Foods Button
Breville air fryer is designed with a frozen food button, so you can air fry the frozen food items. However, if you are unable to use this button, you’ve to check the cooking function you’ve selected.
This is because the frozen foods button only works when you have selected cookies, reheat, toast, bagel, airfy, or pizza functions.
- Heating Elements Are Pulsing
The Breville air fryers are designed with Element IQ, which helps control heat in the unit by pulsing the power and controlling the power level in heating elements – the power level is adjusted or controlled in small bursts to ensure proper temperature control.
So, if the heating elements are pulsing, it’s completely normal.
- Food Isn’t Cooked Evenly
The food isn’t cooked properly if some parts of the food aren’t exposed to heat. In most cases, people make the mistake of overcrowding the basket. So, if the food isn’t cooked evenly, make sure you take out some food and put food in one layer.
Moreover, it’s recommended that you purchase an air fryer with a basket or rack, as it allows the users to cook more food without worrying about the quality of cooking. Secondly, you have to check the basket and make sure it’s properly inserted into the air fryer.
This is because if the basket isn’t installed properly, the circulation of warm air will be impacted, hence causing cooking issues.
- Overheating
The exterior of the air fryer isn’t supposed to get hot when in use. So, if your unit is overheating, it’s likely that the air vents are blocked – the air vents are designed around the lids and base.
The solution is to inspect the air vents and make sure they are clear of debris. In addition, when you use the air fryer, make sure there is four inches of free space around the unit to ensure sufficient ventilation.
This error code on the LCD display occurs when the temperature exceeds the maximum limit. So, if your air fryer has this error code, we recommend that you turn off the air fryer for a few minutes and let it cool down.
