Today’s topic is something pretty straightforward that I believe everyone should know about; knowing how to properly open and refill salt grinders. I know that a lot of you might struggle with something like that. I mean, if you’re here reading this, that’s probably true right? Well, that’s why I want to talk about this topic today to help you out with the whole thing.
Making a mess while opening or refilling salt grinders is really easy. They tend to be tiny, and using too much force just makes everything inside go everywhere. That won’t have to be an issue for you anymore though, as long as you just keep reading and follow a simple little trick that many people use to properly open and refill salt grinders without making any mess!
How To Properly Open and Refill Salt Grinders?
There’s a reason why something as simple as opening and filling up salt grinders can be so difficult sometimes, and that reason is the salt inside.
If you want an explanation, it’s pretty straightforward. Salt absorbs air, no matter where it is. When it does that inside of a salt grinder, there’s too little space and not enough space, effectively making the whole thing airtight. That makes it pretty difficult for you to squeeze open the grinder. And when you finally do get it open, the whole thing just goes everywhere.
You know why it happens, and unfortunately you should also know that there’s no sure fire way to stop it from happening. But, there is a way to make things easier for you so that there isn’t a huge, salty mess on your kitchen floor. Here’s what you need to do for it:
- Put The Grinder In Hot Water
A great way to loosen the lid is to put the salt grinder inside of a bowl of hot water, facing upside down. Keep it there for at least 4-5 minutes, and that will be enough time before you can move on to the next step.
- Dry It Out With A Towel
This step is exactly as simple as the heading suggests. All you need to do is get a towel and start drying out the lid of your salt grinder. Make sure that it’s completely free of moisture, so that the moisture doesn’t get the lid more stuck than it already was.
- Twist The Lid Open
Now that you’ve loosened the lid up a little by doing what I said in the last steps, all that’s left to do is to use the same towel from the previous step to open up the salt grinder. Just wrap the towel all around it and use a bit of force to twist the lid open. That should be more than enough for you to open your salt grinder, and there shouldn’t be any kind of mess. This whole process takes less than 10 minutes, and makes sure that you don’t have to clean for potentially a lot more time than that.
- Refilling It Cleanly
To make sure that you can refill the grinder as cleanly and flawlessly possible, get a piece of paper and just roll it into a cone shape. Place the narrow end of the paper cone inside of the grinder, and keep the wide end straight above. Then, just start pouring as much salt as you want through the wide end, slowly and steadily. It will fill up to the brim without spilling a single speck of salt, and then you can close the lid again!
This process is super easy to follow and doesn’t take any time at all. In fact, you could probably do it in as much time as it took you to read all the way through here! It’s been suuuper helpful for me, and I hope that it makes things just as convenient for you too!
