💡 Tip: Always take your original gravity (OG) reading before adding yeast and your final gravity (FG) reading after fermentation is completely finished (two stable readings 24–48 hours apart). This gives you the most accurate ABV calculation.
💡 Tip: Hydrometer readings are calibrated at 60°F (15.6°C). If your juice or cider is warmer or cooler, apply a temperature correction. For every 10°F above 60°F, add about 0.002 to your reading.
💡 Tip: Fresh apple juice typically measures 11–14 Brix (SG 1.044–1.057), giving a potential ABV of 5.8–7.5% if fermented to dryness. Adding sugar (chaptalization) raises the OG and final ABV.
