How to Fix Whirlpool Gold Refrigerator Freezer Not Freezing?
1. Condenser Coils
The first thing that you need to check is the condenser coils. This is because the condenser coils work the most in freezers and wear out, resulting in ineffective freezing performance. In addition to wearing out, if your freezer has the condenser coils visible at the back, they might even collect dust, resulting in bad heat dissipation (it might not dissipate heat at all). So, switch off the freezer, locate the condenser coils, and clean them. Try to clean these coils after every five months to ensure proper freezing performance.
2. Evaporator Fan Motor
This component of the freezer is designed to disperse air all over the coils and circulate it around to ensure proper freezing. That being said, when the evaporator fan motor stops working, the freezer won’t be able to freeze up. So, if you need to check the fan motor, open the freezer’s door and switch on the freezer door switch (yes, manually). When the switch is activated but you cannot hear the whirring sounds of the motor, it’s because the motor is not working and needs a replacement. In some cases, the motor becomes operational after repair but it’s still not a long-term solution.
3. Start Relay
The start relay is responsible for powering up the compressor. When the start relay stops working, the compressor’s functionality will be impacted, and the freezer won’t operate as it should. Since the start relay is attached to the compressor, you can easily disconnect it and check the continuity (it can be checked with a multimeter). In addition to checking the continuity, you can also smell and relay and see if it has a burnt smell. If it smells burnt, the start relay needs a replacement.
4. Evaporator Coils
We have already talked about the condenser coils but the freezer won’t be able to freeze if the evaporator coils have an ice layer all over. The issue occurs when the defrosting system stops working and the air circulation will be restricted. That being said, you must check the evaporator coils and ensure there is no frosting over it. If you see some frosting, don’t waste your time on defrosting but opt for repairing the defrost system.
5. Door Seal
If all the above-mentioned points are cleared up but the Whirlpool freezer still won’t start freezing, the issue could be as minor as a loose door seal. This is because when the door isn’t closing properly, it won’t be able to retain the cool air, restricting the freezing capacity. So, check out the door seal and make sure it is tight enough.
