Prepare watermelon juice at home and it is one of the most simple summer drink projects, that you can try. You do not need a special juicer, or add sugar; the fruit itself already has a lot of natural sweetness. You just need a blender, a sharp knife and maybe some minutes.
Put a bit of watermelon pulp in the blender, mix it for around thirty seconds, and done!
How to Make Watermelon Juice at Home
The secret here lies in that watermelon is made up of more than 90% of water, so it blends almost perfectly. That same high water content also helps you stay well hydrated, when the summer heat hits. Staying hydrated matters for all body systems (especially your kidneys will enjoy that).
The fruit like this makes up for the lack of liquid, while it gives you natural energy.
The basic version requires only two ingredients: watermelon and black salt. Even so you can add creativity without big effort. Add some mint leaves, fresh ginger or juice of lime, and you will change entirely the taste.
One popular mix is watermelon with lime and salt; it is ready in around ten minutes and is not difficult. Or try the fancy style: mix watermelon with cucumber and a bit of lime for a fresher and softer drink, with only a trace of bitterness that comes threw. Use frozen watermelon if you want, but mind (it will turn out something more slushy).
Seedless watermelon simplifies everything. Cut it in half and use a big spoon to scoop the pulp directly in the blender. Toss the rind.
Then add a bit of lime juice and ice cubes, then mix for one or two minutes. Even so it matters to mention: the rind itself stores nutrients, so if you want to avoid waste, mix it also.
watermelon juice is rich in electrolytes, vitamin A and vitamin C, together with potassium. One cup has around 71 calories. For a serving of eight units you find around 18 grams of carbohydrates, with 1 gram of fiber, 1.5 grams of protein and less than 0.5 gram of fat.
One pound of watermelon gives rough cups and half of juice, so ten pounds or so can give around 15 cups.
Fresh juice lasts in the refrigerator up to a week. A little bit of lemon juice and vitamin C powder helps extend that. After that time it becomes a good place for bacteria.
Freezing it works also, like this you have it up to four months.
Want to make it easier? Lime and grapes form a surprisingly good mix. Watermelon juice blends well with soda water, and adding vanilla ice cream or sorbet makes it truly summer style.
It shines also in margaritas or in non-alcoholic cocktails withpineapple, lime and orange juice.
