The first thing is to unplug the microwave. Okay, that’s obvious, right? But beware! Take care with this appliance.
First, pull its power cord from the wall socket, then place it to one side where there isn’t any current flowing through device. Because we are dealing here with high-voltage parts within insides of your kitchen appliances, safety matter a lot. Nobody wants to get an accidental jolt while tinkering around in there. It’s not easy to pry off the outside. The case hold everything securely in place. You run your fingers around the edge, trying to unseal plastic shell without breaking it off. Eventually the screws comes loose and it pops up, exposing guts of this thing.
Inside the metal box blue connectors and multicolored wires is visible. It says “high voltage” on a sticker that’s written in both Korean and English. That looks like a serious warning.
Replacing The Bulb
Next, unhook the wiring of the bulb itself. Find the end of wire that plugs into light socket. This connects it to rest of the circuitry. See there’s a little plug? Gently pry it loose until the connector come away from the socket. Careful (these are delicate), thin wires. Fortunately nothing tears off in the process. Removing the old bulb isn’t so bad. After disconnecting wire, the bulb pulls right out of its socket. Old and dimmed with age, the glass envelope is intact, but you hold it up for a second before throwing it away.
Installing new one is equally simple. With only slight finger pressure, the new bulb slip into place. It seats correctly in proper location. Now we have a new bulb with markings of what I believe are the max voltage rating right on the black plastic base. The markings are in very small print and easy to read. The clear glass lets you see the filament inside before you install it. Everything confirm that this is the right replacement part for this exact Samsung model.
Matching the voltage needs is important for it to work correctly. Before pushing it into place, you want to be certain the bulb is oriented properley. It makes perfect sense.
Now that wires have been reconnected, you can test the microwave to see if the fix worked. Push the connector back into place. Click-click and your electrical connection is restored. All the while, the wires sits snugly in their cavity. There’s no exposed wire hanging out where heat and other moving component could be a problem.
Once closed, your microwave look like it used to. The metal frame fits snugly underneath plastic shell. Every screw slides neatly into place. You cinch it down but not too tight. Do not tighten it so much that you strip the threads.
Your microwave is good as new, with no evidence of any damage. There are no alignment issues or gaps. It’s a seamless repair job. It’s all good, time for a test run of the microwave. So you flip it on for just a second to see what happens with the interior lighting. Yup, that’s the new bulb glowing bright within the microwave.
Replacing the light doesn’t seem to have changed anything regarding the food-heating capabilities of the machine. The entire process was faster then expected once you got going; you’ll feel so much more confident fixing minor appliance issues yourself now. It was an easy fix that should of been done sooner.
