It’s easy enough, just measure out two cups of brown rice (long-grain). Place it in the inner pot and start cooking.
Not huge, but just enough for a single meal.
Rinsing and Water Preparation
Then there’s rinsing. It seems like a simple task but it’ll take longer then expected. Swirl rice around in the inner pot using your hand(s) as you pour cold water over top to rinse off any dust or other debris. Brown rice will have slightly cloudy water at first; keep going till the run-off appear mostly clean.
You get better texture in the end as a result of thorough rinsing. Not rushing this part because it’s annoying when it stick.
Dump out excess liquid once the water has run clear. The clean rice is ready for the next phase. There is no debris to ruin the final dish.
Adding water is simple with this method. You add exactly two cups of water to the pot.
To add water, it’s easy to just add it with this system. Two cups of water goes into the pot. It makes the perfect amount of rice to water at a 1:1 ratio. Other guidelines recommend various ratios, and maybe this will be best for you in a Instant Pot too.
Then closing the lid is fast. Twist to close. Ensure the steam release handle is placed for sealing. No sealing = no pressure. You’d be frustrated if you didn’t double check that either.
You hit the Rice button. The display turns on and you see that it’s begun the program. It’ll cook under pressure on low for 12 minutes. You see the countdown start to tick down. A 00:12 timer flashs in red across the screen.
Wait time. It’s brief. In fact, there’s no messing around, as the machine will take care of business for you.
That Auto status flashes by as it heats up. You don’t have to touch another setting. Just set and forget.
After this cycle concludes, then you’re faced with your decision: How do you relieve that pressure? Do you quickly release it or just let it go?
To quickly release, you turn the valve to vent. Immediately, steam burst from the valve. Open the top, and there’s fluffy, cooked brown rice inside. It is perfectly done.
Scoop some onto a white plate. The rice is tender yet firm; just right.
The beauty is in its simplicity, put the plate in your hands, and enjoy. Two cups of rice become a satisfying meal. Better yet, it’s all done faster than if you boiled it on the stovetop.
It is convenient.
