dishwasher not spraying water

If you have a big family, then a good dishwasher will make your life so much easier. You won’t have to worry about spending hours daily cleaning the dishes. A good dishwasher will clean your dishes and sanitize them for you. You just have to put in the dishes and take them out when the cleaning cycle is done.

There are many reliable brands for dishwashers out there. The price range can vary depending upon the features and the brand you’re going for. Usually, most customers go for mid-range dishwashers at around a thousand bucks.

However, a common problem with most of these dishwashers is that they will not spray water to clean the dishes sometimes. If you’re having similar issues then follow these methods.

How to Fix Dishwasher Not Spraying Water?

  1. Clogged Pump

This type of issue is very common with most dishwashers. If you don’t maintain your device properly then it is likely that you’re having a water spraying issue because of a clogged pump. But before accessing the water pump you should just try to thoroughly clean the dishwasher first and then check the water level afterward.

Usually, that will fix the problem if you had low water pressure, but if you’re still not getting the desired amount of water then access the water pump. Depending upon the model of your dishwasher, you will need to use the owner’s manual to access the water pump.

Take out the water pump and clean it thoroughly. Make sure that that the water pump is not damaged and then put it back into place. After that, you can try using the dishwasher again to check the water level. If you’re still unable to fix the problem then you might need to replace the motor or the whole pump. However, before ordering a replacement you should try going through other troubleshooting steps first.

  1. Check Water Valve

Aside from the pump, you might also need to check the water valve to fix the spraying problem. In case, you are not getting any water from the spraying arms then the water valve might be damaged or clogged. Usually, the valve is located at the base of the dishwasher and pumps the water in the spraying arms when the cycle starts.

However, if the inlet is clogged or damaged then you won’t get any water in the spraying arms. This is why you need to check the water valve for potential damages. If you’ve had the dishwasher for a long time then it is probably a clogging issue that you can fix by checking the valve.

However, if you clean the inlet after a few weeks then the valve may be damaged. In this situation, you will need to buy a replacement from an online store and install that in your dishwasher.

Depending upon the model of the dishwasher, it won’t cost you more than 50 dollars to get a valve replacement. Moreover, you can also contact the company number regarding the spraying issue and they might send you a replacement for free.

  1. Clogged Spray Arms

If the water valve is functioning properly then you need to move on to the spray arms that are connected to these water valves. The function of these arms is to take the water from the valve and then spray that water onto the dishes.

However, a lot of particles and other things can clog the outlets on these spray arms. So, depending upon the number of dishes and the hardness of the water you might need to check the outlets on these spray arms. Even though there are multiple outlets, over time, all of them can get blocked and create issues.

To access these spraying arms, you will need to take out the racks installed in your dishwasher. You can just slide out the racks and then remove them from the slides. After that, you need to inspect the outlet on the spraying arms.

Most often than not, you will find that these outlets are clogged. If that is the case, then you will need to clean the outlets and put everything back into its place. Try running another cycle again and hopefully, the water will start spraying at this stage.

  1. Inspect Chopper Blade Assembly

If you are repeatedly having this issue because of the food particles getting clogged up in the water supply then you might need to take a look at the chopper blade assembly. The job of this component is to make sure that the food particles don’t clog up the unit too quickly.

However, if you have to clean the dishwasher several times a month then the assembly may be damaged. You will need to replace the chopper blade assembly and that should help you with the clogging issues related to the dishwasher.

You can order the replacement component online and then install it in your dishwasher. You will need to take off the flat dish from the base of the dishwasher to access the plastic assembly. From there just take off the top cover by removing the screws and you will have access to the chopper blades.

Remove the current blades from the chopper assembly and then install the new one in its place. Screw back the plastic cover and put the dish back into its place. Hopefully, you won’t have to worry about clogging issues as much after replacing this component.

  1. Check Motor

If the chopper assembly was working properly then you might have issues with the motor installed in your dishwasher. Usually, the motor-related issues are caused by insufficient power to the unit. So, you can use a multimeter to check the continuity status of the motor.

If you can’t find any defect with the multimeter and the power supply is fine then the motor may have gone bad. However, if you can’t put a finger on the cause of this error then your best bet is to ask someone from the company support to help you figure this out. Most of the brands have 24/7 support for their customers. So, you shouldn’t have any problem contacting them.
