The machine, which has stopped making espresso, turns on a solid red light by the ground container.
Troubleshooting Red Light Issues
If this light comes on, it means something isn’t in place or sitting right. Head over to the control panel and make sure the ground container is installed properly or the drip tray is in place.
A solid red indicator light near the ground container signal that a part is missing or not seated correctly.
Finally, the drip tray might be present. However, sometimes they don’t get pushed in completly. Pull it out slightly and push it back in hard. When it’s seated correctly, the light go off. It’s just a safety measure to make sure both trays is in place.
Something else isn’t quite right if you see this: A flashing red light means that the grounds bin is full of used coffee pucks, which prevent the machine from operating.
The De’Longhi Magnifica S Smart‘s grounds container is located in the front. Open it up, remove the container, and discard the used coffee grounds into your compost. While you’re at it, look inside the drip tray for water; if needed, dispose of any excess. Once the grounds container have been emptied, return it to its slot, ensuring that it clicks into position.
The red light will stop flashing once everything is secured.
After securing it all, the red light will cease to flash.
The red light can be confusing because it has 2 states. It will flash when the bin is full, and it’s solid when a part isn’t seated properly.
The solution is also different: one case calls for cleaning the bin, the other for seating the tray. Neither allow the machine to brew.
Start by checking the status of the light; a solid light means the bin and tray is in place. If so, is the bin full? It is flashing. That way you know immediately which is the issue without having to go through all the steps.
Most models of the De’Longhi Magnifica use similar controls. There’s a dial for strength, buttons for Coffee, Lungo and Espresso. The buttons on the top control panel is easy to see. They’re brightly lit, so there’s no way to overlook them.
The machine won’t override the sensor if the bin is full. This forces you to maintain the cleanliness of the machine, which eliminates problems. When the light comes on you have to do something about it.
If the light flashes instead of staying solid, you know what the problem is and can fix it quickly. It all becomes a part of your morning ritual, making sure you get coffee every time without worry.
