Does your De’Longhi Magnifica seem to be slowly dispensing coffee, rather then flowing at a constant rate? Well you might be able to fix it with some basic maintenance and a check of a couple component.
The culprit is frequently the grind setting; fine particles blocks water flow within the machine. Simply turn the grinder to a slightly coarser setting, this removes the bottleneck in the system. And the flow rate will probably start improving right away.
Performing Deep Maintenance
Don’t pack the coffee too tight or it will create resistance for the water. If you are brewing with pre-ground coffee, be careful about how much you use, as it might clog the brew chamber. I just fill it with a single level scoop (just like you would do for drip coffee, not as fine as espresso powder).
Eventually, however, that blockage may form within the system. To remove it, just run the built-in rinse program.
It’s quick (just a couple of minutes), and will flush loose grounds and other debris from the system. Let the program run its course; if the obstruction wasn’t too severe, the slow drip should cease.
Alternatively, the issue might be hard-water mineral scale that’s clogging your pipes. When it’s time to descale, there’ll be a red indicator light on the display.
To fix this, simply run the unit through its paces with a cleaning cartridge: Fill up the clear water tank to the indicated mark (there’s a line on the side for this) then insert a De’Longhi ECOCLEAN cartridge.
You press the button to start the descaling process, and the screen displays a red icon to confirm initiation.
The screen shows a red icon once started and then you just has to wait for the process to run until it completes. You can put a metal bowl below the spout to collect the water. The machine turns the water on and off automatically as needed.
Let the machine do its thing until it’s done. It’ll be turning on and off as it goes so that’s nothing unusual.
Once the cycle finishes, you empty the tank and refill it with fresh water to the maximum level to rinse out any remaining cleaning solution.
After the cycle completes, simply drain the tank, fill it back up to capacity with clean water to rinse out any remaining cleaning solution. All the red indicator lights on the machine goes dark, which means it’s ready for use.
Next, brew yourself a test cup just to make sure it’s flowing smoothly and that your coffee tastes like it should of.
