The De’Longhi Magnifica allow you to set the brew temperature to suit your coffee beans. While some roasts likes hot water for full extraction, others will burn at higher temperatures. Getting it right make for a better finished cup.
And setting it is simple: use the buttons to program the correct sequence. Note that the De’Longhi Magnifica should of be fully powered down, meaning not only turned off, but also in standby mode.
Make sure that main power switch is in the I position. Although it might seem strange to begin with the machine turned off, this is actualy how you get to the temperature settings.
How to adjust settings
Double check before doing anything else, or the controls will just make coffee. This will save time, and aggravation, later.
After turning the machine off, look for the Espresso button located on the left side of the panel. Press and hold that button until the lights comes on on the control panel.
It typically only take a second or two; whether the lights is blinking or solid, it just means the machine is ready for your input. Don’t tap the button too fast! Hold it firm.
Once the lights come back on, simply tap the Espresso button once more to adjust it. Tapping will cycle between settings, starting at low and ending at high.
For most blends, I’d recommend sticking with the middle setting; dark roast beans needs a higher temp while delicate flavors tend to be better with something lower. Ultimately, this comes down to what tastes good to you. Pick whichever temp suit your taste buds best.
Once you’ve settled on your desired brewing temperature, hit the Long button to finalize. The lights will go out at this point, indicating you’re all set.
The machine will then turn back into standby mode, so you are ready to brew. If you change your settings, it’s always a good idea to do a test to ensure the new temp is in play. You’ll know within the first sip if you got it right.
