The red container light has stopped on the base of your De’Longhi machine, and you can’t make another cup. Don’t freak out. It signals what is happening inside the machine and needs your attention immediatly. There are two ways this light can look, and each one tell you something different.
A solid red light is a standard issue with the machine. It typically indicates that either your ground container or the drip tray isn’t in place (or something about it is misaligned). When the machine doesn’t see whatever part is supposed to be there, it will flash this light until you address problem.
To remedy that, you check on it. The issue are resolved immediately.
Understanding the Light Signals
This switch is inside the machine, specifically near area that holds the container itself. When the container is in place, the switch simply physically senses it’s there. No fancy electronics; just a simple, good old-fashioned mechanical setup.
If everything is setup properly and that little switch was tripped, then the red light should of go out as the container pushes on it.
But maybe you see a flashing red light rather than a solid one? This is completely different: The flashing red light tells you that the ground container has reached capacity. Empty it immediately or it will overflow.
Empty the tray. If the container of used coffee grounds is full (packed solid when you remove it), empty that too.
The solution is simple: Drain out the container and drip tray. Reinsert parts and be certain they are clicked firmly into place.
This time the switch connect and the red light totally dissapears. All of the Coffee and Espresso buttons works normally once again. Everything is fine with your control panel.
The flashing versus solid lights helps save time. Why disassemble the machine each time? Simply look at the container…if it’s solid red then it’s an install issue; if it’s flashing then you know it’s full of grounds.
This eliminates troubleshooting you don’t need to perform. De’Longhi designed the alert system to be clear, and the red light say: Stop right there and check something out.
The red alert is caused by these lights, a solid light means it’s not installed properly, and a flashing light means the grounds container are full.
To keep the machine running smoothly, follow two simple habits: keep the grounds container empty to avoid the flashing light, and install it correctly to avoid the solid light. Consistency make all the difference.
