Cheese ranks between those delicious foods that answers for many occasions. It well suits for fast snacks or starters, and its rich, salty taste makes a joyous gift for every member of the family. Pre-cubed Cheese is already cut and ready to use, so it helps to be even more practical for any event.
There are only some kinds. Commonly chosen are gentle cheddar, Colby Jack, sharp cheddar and Pepper Jack. Also Gouda and Colby comes in cubed form.
Cubed Cheese: Types, Sizes and Uses
Usual cubes happen in different sizes, for instance three-quarter inches, half inches and quarter inches, except custom sizes. Some brands bid their cubes in practical 8-ounce or 10-ounce resealable packets, pockets or bigger portions of 2 to 5 pounds.
Snack cubes like those of Schreiber Mild Cheddar give sweet cheddar taste and are ready to eat directly from the package. They have even size and high quality, what reduces waste and saves time during preparation. Gentle cheddar cubes are made from cultured pasteurised milk, salt, enzymes and annatto for the colour.
Some variants include also potato starch and powdered cellulose to stop clumping, except natamycin as natural guard against mold.
A quarter-pound block of Cheese matches two-thirds of a cup of cubed Cheese. One cube or standard slice is about one ounce. One portion of Great Value cubed gentle cheddar, that is made up of around seven cubes, holds 110 calories, 9 grams of fat, 7 grams of protien and 1 gram of whole carbs.
Cubed Colby Jack Cheese has almost identical values per portion.
Cubed Cheese finds fun uses except simply snacking. One can freeze it or even pickle it with herbs, vinegar and sugar, what well answers four salads. Cubes can be breaded and fried for Cheese balls.
They well fit in pasta salad. In the 1970s one used a fun party trick: lay Cheese cubes and pineapple blocks on cocktail sticks and arrange them in half a grapefruit. Sharp cheddar with apple on a toothpick forms another delicious pair.
