Best Recipe For Chicken Tikka Masala

Chicken tikka masala originated in South Asia, but it’s made a mark worldwide. People across the world like it a lot, and I’m no exception to that.

When I first had it at a restaurant, I enjoyed it so much. Of course, that meant I had to mess around in the kitchen and make some myself.

After a few attempts, I finally had the chicken tikka masala recipe I liked most. Today, I want to share this recipe with you too.

That way, you don’t have to go through attempts like I did, and can skip to making a delicious meal that everyone in your house will enjoy!

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken tikka masala is a delicious blend of flavors. It goes without saying that you’ll need many ingredients to create those flavors. Here’s a list of the ones in my recipe:

  • 1/2 cups of Yogurt
  • 1/2 tablespoons of garlic paste
  • 1/2 tablespoons of ginger paste
  • 2 teaspoons of Vinegar
  • 1/2 tablespoons of Gram Flour
  • 750 grams of Chicken Pieces
  • 1.5 cups of Olive Oil
  • 1 Onion, Chopped
  • 1/2 tablespoons of Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1 Pinch of Cumin Seeds
  • 3 Tomatoes, Sliced
  • 1/2 cups of Water
  • 1 pinch of Black Pepper Powder
  • 1 pinch of Coriander Whole
  • 1 Coriander
  • 2 Green Chilli
  • 1 Ginger

Fortunately, it isn’t very difficult to get all these because they’re mostly common ingredients. However, keep in mind to have a single piece of Burning Coal, wrapped in aluminum before you proceed.

Furthermore, as a personal favorite, I used 3 tablespoons of Chicken Tikka Masala for really bringing out the flavor of the dish.

Usually I’d take the time to mention some substitutes or additional ingredients for my recipes. However, this time, I recommend that you don’t try to change much. Chicken tikka masala is unique and delicious because each individual ingredient mixes together to form a delectable combination. If you add or substitute anything, it might not turn out as good as you would like.

So stick to what I’ve said, and once you have it all, let’s start cooking a delicious meal!

Instructions

Using my chicken tikka masala recipe, you can make a delicious meal in no time. Here are the simple steps you need to follow for it:

  1. Make The Marinating Mixture: Spread 3 tablespoons of chicken tikka masala all over a plate. Pour half a cup of yogurt over the masala and top it off with ½ tablespoons of garlic and ginger paste each. Then dump 2 teaspoons of vinegar and 1.2 tablespoons of gram flour on top. You have all the ingredients you need for the seasoning, so start mixing gently and thoroughly.

  2. Marinate the Chicken: Put the 750 grams of chicken on the plate and start applying the mixture with your hands. I recommend that you use your hands because that gives it a more personal touch, letting you make sure that the mixture gets on every part of the chicken. Once it’s done and you’ve covered the chicken pieces entirely, it’s time for the next step.

  3. Let the Chicken Rest: After the chicken has covering all over it, you’re supposed to do exactly as the heading says… let the chicken rest. Leave it alone for at least 30 minutes. Aaaand… that’s it. That’s all this step is. Keep yourself busy with anything you want, and I’ll see you after thirty minutes pass!

  4. Cook the Chicken: Put a deep pan on the stove and heating up as much olive oil as you need inside. Once it’s covered with olive oil and the liquid starts to visibly warm up, you can start gently placing the chicken inside. Make sure you’re careful because you don’t want the warm oil to hit your fingers. You’ll want to cook both sides for 4-6 minutes so that the chicken absorbs the flavor better.

  5. Prepare the Vegetables and Spices: Grab a fry pan and pour olive oil as per your need over it. Once it warms up a little, toss 1 chopped onion and cook it until it changes in color. After you see a golden-like layer on top, you’ll know it’s done.

  6. Add Additional Ingredients: When that happens, start adding additional ingredients, such as cumin seeds (however many you need) and ½ tablespoons of ginger garlic paste. That’s not all though, because you’ll want to add the 1 sliced tomato I mentioned in the ingredients list too.

  7. Mix and Cook: Mix everything around. Now add ½ cups of water and gently mix a little more. Cover the frying pan with a lid. Cook this for 8-10 minutes so that everything gels together and the tomatoes melt.

  8. Add Final Ingredients: After the 8-10 minutes pass by, you’ll want to put the remaining ingredients inside before you can finally add the chicken. Remove the lid and add ½ teaspoons of turmeric powder. Follow that up with as much chilli powder as per your preferences. I usually put more than a tablespoon in mine, but you can add more or less depending on how spicy you want the chicken tikka masala to be.

  9. Add Black Pepper Powder and Cook: Like the chilli powder, add black pepper powder as per your taste too. Now mix the ingredients around a little before putting as much coriander whole as you like, depending on personal preferences. Cover this up and cook it for 3-4 minutes before moving on to the next step.

  10. Add the Chicken: As you can guess, you’re almost there! Gently place the cooked pieces of chicken inside the mixture boiling in the frying pan and mix it well so that the sauce gets all over. After that, just cover the frying pan (yet again) and cook the chicken mixture for 3-4 minutes at least.

  11. Apply the Finishing Touches: Now it’s just about some final steps and you’re done! So, take the lid and move the chicken around before adding coriander, green chillis, and sticks of ginger inside. Mix all of these around so that they’re spread throughout the frying pan within the other ingredients.

  12. Insert Coal and Cook: One last thing to do now is to gently place a piece of burning coal (wrapped in aluminum) in the middle of the frying pan, and toss some olive oil over it. Cover it with a lid quickly after that, so smoke doesn’t go everywhere. Let it sit for a few minutes once the lid is on before taking it out of the frying pan, and your chicken tikka masala will be ready!

  13. Serve: Now that you are all done, just serve the dish on a plate and enjoy your meal!
