💡 Tip: The "golden ratio" for most brew methods is 1 gram of coffee per 15–18 ml of water. Start at 1:16, then adjust to taste — less water (1:14) makes it stronger, more water (1:18) makes it lighter.
💡 Tip: For the freshest cup, grind your beans right before brewing. Pre-ground coffee loses its aroma within 15–30 minutes of grinding. Store whole beans in an airtight container away from light, heat, and moisture.

Coffee Basics

Serving size is commonly misundrestood. A cup of coffee does not match eight fluid ounces like a standard measuring cup, but six ounces. That is the American standard.

Makers commonly estimate cups in five to six ounces, so that they can advertise more cups per brew. A machine with a sixty-ounce water tank can promise ten cups instead of only seven and half based on eight-ounce cups. Coffee makers do not always follow American imperial measures, so check the marks on the carafe.

Usual coffee cups range from eight to twenty-four ounces, some even to thirty-two or forty-four. A gallon of coffee serves for sixteen eight-ounce cups, which works for big groups.

Good coffee beans give excellent coffee, if you do not mess up the process. Water plays a big role too. Beans and water are more important than many other things for a good cup.

Many methods exist to prepare coffee. French press is very liked. Pour over is another good option.

You use a Melitta cone or Chemex filter. Moka pots work on a stove or electrical versions. Electrical moka pots commonly work more and give better taste.

Cold brew is another option. Turkish coffee is famous because of its strong style, that increases caffeine and flavor. There is also a style with a cloth filter, occasionally called a sock, where grounds are moistened so that they rise before brewing.
