ALDI is a German, family-owned supermarket chain that was started in 1946 by two brothers. It became increasingly popular over the years.
After a decade or so of its founding, the brand had become one of the most popular names around when it comes to supermarkets. Today ALDI has over 10 000 stores in over 20 countries.
Many trusted it back then for their daily grocery needs, and it became one of the leading supermarket franchises around. This is certainly the case even today. It has even made its way into the US and is popular there as well.
They have their own range of many different products or “house brands”. One example of this is their popular bread range, specifically the zero carb bread which they released some years ago and which was then discontinued.
Today, we’re going to be discussing the ALDI zero carb bread being discontinued and where the saga is at today.
ALDI’s L’Oven Keto-Friendly Zero Net Carbs Bread – What Is It?
These wheat and multiseed loaves originally made an appearance at some ALDI stores towards the end of 2019. They were so popular, probably due to the whole Keto trend, that the company could not keep up with the demand.
The Tale Behind Aldi Zero Carb Bread Being Discontinued
Lots of people loved the bread as soon as it was released. This new product was a huge success and sold well beyond expectations. Its fans were very disappointed shortly afterward because of a rather unfortunate piece of news.
This was the fact that the ALDI zero carb bread was being discontinued for various reasons, with one of the suspected ones being that the product had simply been a test run.
After some time, it couldn’t be found anywhere at all, resulting in many people being left wanting more. The zero-carb bread wasn’t even available online, and this remained the case up until very recently.
Can You Still Get Aldi Zero Carb Bread?
ALDI recently announced that they were bringing back their popular zero-carb bread. This news came in April 2021, and now the product is back on ALDI store shelves once again. It seems that now it’s here to stay.
What Does It Taste Like?
Fans of the bread say that it has a texture that is similar to that of wheat bread, especially after it has been toasted. Untoasted, it is a little chewy but still works as a good carrier of sandwich fillings.
It has a slight aftertaste which may be from the preservatives.
What Does It Contain?
In one slice (28 g):
- 45 calories
- 1 g fat
- 9 g total carbs
- 5 g protein
- 9 g fiber
We thought it wasn’t supposed to contain any carbs? Well, because fiber doesn’t get digested and absorbed like simple carbs are, you can subtract the fiber from the carbs to get “net carbs” which in this case equals zero.
It may be carb-free, but it’s not gluten-free. Here is a list of the ingredients:
- Water
- Wheat gluten
- Modified wheat starch
- Wheat protein isolate
- Oat fiber
- Vegetable fiber
- Wheat bran
- Soybean oil
- Yeast
- Vinegar
- Salt
- Preservatives
To Wrap Up
We’re sure this will be good news for all ALDI Zero Carb bread lovers out there. Keep an eye out for it next time you’re at the store.
Too bad the price keeps rising. You see it says 2.99? Yesterday one loaf was $4.49.. crazy…
When will Aldi begin having the zero or low carb buns again?
