Thermador has an array of microwaves available to make sure there is something for everyone, irrespective if you want to cook the food or just heat it up for dinner. However, the drawer-in microwaves are most commonly used, but the drawer has to close properly to make sure heat is produced and retained in the unit. However, if the Thermador microwave drawer won’t close, there are multiple solutions that you can try!
Fixing Thermador Microwave Drawer Won’t Close
1. Door Latch
First of all, you have to check the door latch or lock because a blocked latch or lock can prevent the drawer from closing. In most cases, the shipping or packing material is stuck in the lock and latch, so check for it and clear it up to make sure the drawer closes properly. Secondly, you have to check the size of the bakeware or dish because a bigger dish prevents the drawer from closing, so change the plate if possible. You can check the manual to determine the correct size of the plate for the microwave. Last but not least, you must check out the cooking rack or plate to make sure it’s not out of position. To illustrate, if the plate or rack is not in place, it can come out and restrict the drawer from closing.
2. Surface
If there is nothing wrong with the door latch or lock but the microwave’s drawer is still not closing, there are high chances that the installation surface is uneven. It’s recommended that you put the Thermador microwave on a leveled and flat counter or shelf. In fact, you can also use the cart or table for placing the microwave as long as nothing is blocking the drawer.
3. Contact Area
Irrespective of which Thermador microwave you are using, you need to keep an eye on the contact area because the dirty contact area of the door or drawer can prevent the closure. In most cases, regular use of microwaves results in grease and food residue buildup, which hinders the door or drawer’s operation. So, check the contact area, and if it’s dirty, you have to turn off the microwave and clean the contacts. For cleaning the contacts, it’s recommended that you use a clean cloth and contact cleaner as it wipes away the dirt easily.
4. Close Button
Some Thermador microwaves are designed with the open and close button on the front display, which helps open or close the microwave’s drawer. So, if your microwave has this button, you need to ensure that the close button is pressed. In case the close button is already pressed, but the drawer still won’t close, the button could be damaged, or its backend connections might have come off. In that case, you have to call an electrician to get the damaged button replaced or get the connections done.
5. Power
On top of everything, the Thermador microwaves are designed to operate with electricity, so when the power connection is hindered, it can impact the functionality of the oven, and the drawer not closing is one of them. So, check the power cable and make sure it’s connected to the power outlet properly. Also, the damaged power cable must be replaced.
