Not having an oven you can use in the kitchen makes it sooo hard to enjoy a lot of great foods at home. You can’t make a lot of great recipes, at least not in the right way. Because of that, options for food can be really limited, especially since you lose a lot of the yummiest homemade dishes because there’s no oven to make them in.

But, that doesn’t mean everything’s all that bad. There are still some you can prepare on the stove, and one of them is potato cheese bread. I’ll show you how you can easily make some at home, even if you don’t have an oven.

Ingredients

Scale

Despite it being so simple, there’s a lot involved in making potato cheese bread right. From the dough to the filling, here’s everything you’ll need for the recipe:

  • 1 and 3/4 Cups of All Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 Cup of Corn Flour
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon of Melted Butter
  • 1/2 Cup and 3 Tablespoons of Milk
  • Cooking Oil
  • 68 Boiled Potatoes
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Dried Parsley
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoon of Mayonnaise
  • Cheese, Cubed
  • 3 Tablespoons of Butter

Instructions

Once you’ve decided what ingredients you’re using and want to start cooking, you can start following the instructions below. I’m going to cut the instructions into different parts of the recipe so that it’s easier to go through them. Let’s finally get started with the first part!

Dough

The first step is to make the dough. It’s really important to get this right since bad dough can ruin the whole recipe because that’s where your filling is going to go. Just follow these steps and it’ll come out perfect, just the way you need it for this particular recipe:

  1. Combine All The Ingredients Together: Get the ingredients you need for the dough and put them all in one large bowl. This includes 1 and ¾ cups of all-purpose flour, as well as ½ cups of corn flour. Add ½ teaspoons of salt and 1 tablespoon of melted butter to this. Mix all of these ingredients so far as well as you can before pouring ½ cup and 3 tablespoons of milk on top of the resulting mixture.

  2. Mix and Shape Dough: After pouring the milk on top, mix all the ingredients one more time until they start forming the dough. Once you notice that happening, start kneading everything with your hands. Carefully shape it into a ball and apply some oil across the surface of the dough. That way, it’ll stay tender, hydrated, and hold flavor as long as you need it to before using it.

  3. Store the Dough Away: Once you do all of this, it’s safe to store the dough away in the fridge for now. You won’t be needing it for a while, so cover it up. Put it in the fridge so that it stays fresh and ready by the time you’ll need it.

Filling

  1. Boil and Mash Potatoes: Boil 6-8 potatoes¬ for mashing. There’s not really much else to explain for that step.

  2. Add Spices and Sauces: Once the potatoes are mashed, add spices and sauces inside to give them flavoring. Get started with the spices, which are ½ teaspoons of parsley, and as much salt as you prefer in your recipes. You can also add other spices, as discussed earlier. After you’re done with that, add 1 and ½ tablespoons of mayonnaise to the potatoes. Now mix everything well so that the potatoes are completely covered in those ingredients.

Prep

  1. Put Filling in Dough: Now that the filling is ready, you can get the dough out. Use a knife to cut it in half from the top, and place it on a lightly floured surface. Roll half of the dough you cut up into a flat circle. Then, put cubed pieces of cheese into the center, and potato filling across it. Leave a border of dough so that the edges aren’t covered with filling.

  2. Adjust the Dough: Get some water and apply it across the borders of the dough where there’s no filling. Then, fold the edges together, kind of like how you would with a dumpling. Then, twist before flattening the dough down.

  3. Roll It Out: Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough again. Once it’s fully rolled out and flat, poke the rim of the dough using a fork. Do this in three different places so that there are enough vents for hot air to get out.

  4. Cook the Bread: Everything’s ready, which means you can finally start cooking! For that, you’ll need to get a frying pan and 3 tablespoons of butter spread across its surface. Heat this butter up and then add the filled dough you’ve been working on. Cook this on both sides for at least 4-5 minutes, or however long it takes for the crust to become golden and brown. Once you notice that change in color, you can serve the potato cheese bread while it’s hot! That’s the end of that. This is all you need to do to make some delicious, melty cheese and potato bread at home without ever needing an oven!

Notes

  • These are the main ingredients you’re going to need for non-bake potato cheese bread. But, that doesn’t you can’t put some extra stuff in there too.
  • The filling part of the recipe is pretty flexible. You can change it around depending on your preferences. If you want something spicier, you can throw some chilli flakes in there, or cut up some green chillis and put those in there instead.
  • You can also mix around different kinds of cheeses inside to give it a different flavor. That way, it’ll come out extra cheesy and delicious depending on which cheeses you mix. For example, mozzarella and cheddar is a great but simple mixture that really compliments this recipe.
