Baked items like bread, buns and bread rolls have a limited shelf life because they don’t usually have preservatives. In most cases, these products don’t have a shelf life longer than two to three days, which is why it’s important to follow preventative measures to ensure the bread rolls don’t get spoiled. So, with this article, we are sharing different ways that you can try to keep the bread rolls fresh and fluffy!
How To Keep Bread Rolls Fresh?
- Keep Them Cooled
First of all, if you like to bake the bread rolls at home, we recommend that you allow the rolls to cool down on their own before you store them. In particular, we recommend that you place the bread rolls on the cooling rack and leave them at room temperature for at least an hour. Putting the bread rolls at room temperature will allow to cut down the baking process, which makes sure the bread rolls are fresh yet well-cooked. In addition, it will ensure that the warm air doesn’t spoil the bread when you store it.
- Wrapping The Bread Roll
In addition to cooling down the bread rolls before storage, you have to be careful about wrapping as well. In particular, it’s important that you wrap the bread rolls in a plastic storage bag or foil. In case you opt for foil, you must encase the bread rolls properly because the exposed areas will result in mold and drying. It is recommended that you wrap each bread roll individually and don’t forget to check the sides. On the other hand, if you opt for the plastic storage bag, you should push air from the bag before you seal the bag. That’s because if there is air left inside the plastic bag, it can result in the drying up of the bread.
- Storage Location
In case you have to eat the bread rolls within a few days, you can leave them at room temperature. Many people think that putting the bread roll in the refrigerator will keep it fresh for a longer time period. However, it is not true because the refrigerator can actually dry out the rolls as the refrigerators have a moist-free environment. In addition, the bread’s taste will alter if you put the bread in the refrigerator for a long time – it will absorb the flavor of other food items placed in the fridge.
On the other hand, if you don’t have to eat the bread rolls right away, you should wrap the bread in plastic wrap and store it in the freezer. It will help ensure the fresh flavor and texture of the bread rolls. If you freeze the bread rolls and have to eat them later, it’s recommended that you place them on a baking rack to bring them to room temperature. In addition, we are sharing different bread roll storage locations and how they impact the bread’s freshness;
- Counter – if you have to store the bread rolls on the counter, make sure you pick a spot that’s away from the primary working space and the stove. That’s because exposing the bread rolls to hot air and bringing it back to room temperature will dry the rolls
- Cabinet – this is a good option for storing the bread rolls without worrying about them going bad. It’s recommended that you put the bread rolls on the lower shelf of the upper cabinets but make sure you clean the cabinet regularly to clear away the crumbs
- Drawer – if your cupboard has a drawer with an inner liner, it can be used to store the bread because the lid seals the unit, preventing spoilage of bread. On the other hand, if you don’t have a lined drawer, it’s recommended that you put the bread rolls in the plastic container and slide it into the drawer
In addition to all these storage locations, make sure you don’t put bread rolls on the top of the dishwasher or fridge because they become warm when you operate them.
