Cleaning The Filter On Maytag Dishwasher
1. Locate The Filter
First of all, you need to locate the dishwasher filter and take out the bottom rack to expose the bottom side of the dishwasher. The filter can be seen in the tub’s corner or around the bottom spray arm. You will need to remove the filter but make sure you are careful so you don’t end up damaging the filter. Some Maytag dishwashers are also designed with triple filter systems, the lower filter and the upper filter. The upper assembly is responsible for collecting the foreign and oversized particles, while the lower assembly ensures that food is not recirculated. For the upper assembly, turn it in an anti-clockwise direction to take it out, and the lower filter can be removed by lifting it and pulling it in the forward direction.
2. Cleaning The Filter
Now that you have removed the filter, rinse it under the tap, and it’s best to use warm water to make sure most residue and soil is cleaned away. If the food particles aren’t getting rinsed off, you can also soak the filter in hot water for an hour. In case of calcium buildup, you can use a sponge or soft brush to scrub it clean. However, don’t use scouring pads or wire brushes because they damage the filter.
3. Install The Filter
When the filter is properly cleaned, you need to reinstall it into the Maytag dishwasher. You have to be careful while installing the filter to make sure you don’t damage it. Also, make sure the filter is properly lined and turn the filter in a clockwise direction for installation. When the filter is set in place, it will make a locking sound. So, when you hear this sound, you can just screw everything back in place and start using the dishwasher.

How often you clean the filter depends on how much you use the dishwasher. For instance, if you use the dishwasher once or thrice a week, the filter must be cleaned after every two months. Similarly, if you use up to seven loads, cleaning the filter once a month is essential.
