A microwave has become a valuable addition to every home because it makes it easier to reheat the leftover food and some ovens also allow the users to cook new meals in the kitchen appliance. However, to achieve the right performance and heating outcomes, you need to select the right appliance as nobody can beat the quality of kitchen appliances when compared to Frigidaire.
This is because the company has designed high-end kitchen appliances with microwaves being one of them. These units are designed with locks to make sure the door doesn’t open accidentally because it can stop the microwave’s function. On the other hand, if the door is locked and won’t open up, you need to check the following solutions!
Why Is Frigidaire Microwave Locked?
Using The Frigidaire Microwave Lock
The microwaves are designed with a door switch, which enables it to lock the microwave door and display controls. To set up the lock feature, you have to hit the OFF button for six seconds and the display panel will show the locked door indicator. You need to wait for around fifteen seconds to make sure the door is fully closed.
However, if you want to unlock the microwave, you have to press the OFF button for six seconds again and the oven door will be unlocked. On the other hand, if the locking feature doesn’t work, there are some solutions that you can try.
1. Door Switch
The microwave is designed with a switch in the door, which is responsible for latching the lock in place and making sure that the locking feature is turned on. However, if you have been using your Frigidaire microwave for a long time, it’s needless to say that the door switch will wear out (it tends to wear with time).
So, when the door switch is damaged, it’s unable to latch to the door, resulting in the inability of the lock feature to work. The solution is to call the appliance technician and ask them to replace the door switch. Since the door switch is extremely affordable and repairing is not the long-term solution, you should opt for a replacement.
2. Line Fuse
When excessive current starts passing through the circuitry of your microwave oven, the line fuse will stop working because it blows up. So, when the line fuse flows, the locking feature will not work. To determine if it’s a line fuse that’s blown, you need to check its continuity with the help of a multimeter – if there is no continuity, the line fuse needs to be replaced.
However, simply replacing the line fuse won’t work because if you don’t resolve the root cause, the line fuse will blow up again. The microwave oven is integrated with a capacitor to make sure the electric current is regulated, so if it’s not working, the fuse will keep blowing. Having said that, while you are replacing the line fuse, make sure that the capacitor is replaced as well.
3. Main Control Board
The main control board is the primary board that controls everything in a microwave. In the majority of cases, the issues related to the main control board are misdiagnosed. For instance, if you have tried different troubleshooting methods but the door locking issue is still there, you need to get your main control board replaced.
However, keep in mind that it holds thousands of electricity volts, so even if you unplug the microwave, you will still be at the risk of electrocution. This is why it can be extremely challenging to repair or replace the main control board on your own, which is why it’s better to hire an electrician.
4. Thermal Fuse
The thermal fuse is responsible for cutting off the power connection to the Frigidaire microwave in case of overheating. However, it can blow out if the microwave is connected to a power source with fluctuating voltage. That being said, you need to know that the thermal fuse is not suitable for reset, so replace the thermal fuse to make sure the electricity connection is optimized as it can fix electricity-related issues that are causing locking issues. Lastly, always hire a licensed technician to replace the thermal fuse and purchase a high-quality fuse to ensure it works for a long time.
