If your Sharp microwave has a frozen display, here’s how to fix it in two steps. You won’t have to buy a new one just because the screen is locked up. Instead, the microwave likely got stuck trying to run a program over and over. All you want to do is clear the memory and restart the system.
You can fix a frozen Sharp microwave display by following a two-step process.
Perform a hard reset
Locate the red button on the control panel (labeled Stop/Reset or Start/Stop). Press it hard. That will typically clear the memory and reset the screen back to zero.
But that doesn’t always work. Sometimes the internal logic gets gummed up and the screen will be frozen at something like 02:00 or just blank and non-responsive. Ugh.
And when you press the button it doesn’t do anything. It’s infuriating, because it looks like the easy solution. But you have to go further. To really tackle the basic glitch, you reach for the power cord to kill the device.
It’s a normal 3 pronged plug on the end of the cord, just pull straight away from the wall with your hand holding onto the plug head. Don’t pull on the actual cord, because that means you is unplugging the microwave completely.
There are no active circuits running in the microwave. The unit becomes inactive, so there are no active circuits running. Time for a forced restart aka hard reset if the button didn’t worked.
Now that the plug’s out, it’s time to wait for the capacitors to discharge. Unplugging your microwave for a full minute (five minutes would of been better) allows for any remaining charge to bleed off before you continue.
Patience will allow you to get through this. Skipping this part could result in no memory clearing.
Then, once you’ve waited, you plug your microwave back in. You push the plug fully into the socket to ensure a secure connection.
The microwave turns on, the display comes back to life. You look at it. It says “0:00” (in green). That means the system has restarted, and everything was lost.
The microwave now works like new.
Now the microwave functions properly again. The screen is no longer frozen. Controls work like they should.
Button press followed by a power cycle; that’s the two step to get things back on track. Now you’ve got something in your tool kit (that) won’t have you calling up service for minor issues. Your microwave has been fixed with a quick reset and your kitchen runs smoother.
