While this device works well as an appliance for your kitchen, there are times when things don’t work quite right. For instance, if you attempt to use both zones at the same time (sync cook) than one side will shut off completely and the display show the message “SHUT.” The unit flashes this message on the non-working zone. The affected zone goes dark, while the other side continue to cook normaly. Here’s how you can resolve the issue without calling customer service.
There are typically three thing.
Inspecting Hardware and Fuses
The first thing to check for are any physical obstructions on the top surface. Never place anything on top of the appliance. Even something as harmless as a little trivet will cause a shutdown.
To protect itself, the appliance senses heat or pressure buildup and then shuts down. It’s telling you to remove everything from the surface. Clear the area completely. If the “SHUT” message stays on, the problem is not with the top. According to the manual, it should of never have anything on top.
Now check the back of it. Air fryers do require good ventilation, so make sure all those grilles on the back is clean. Even just having something like a towel in front of them can stop the airflow.
To keep the machine cool inside, it needs that room. When the air vent is covered, the temperature rise and causes the fryer to shut itself off as a safety precaution. Clear out anything around the back wall. If it’s still shutting down, then it’s not a ventilation issue.
Next, check the cooking baskets. Frequently, people will only pull the baskets out part way and fail to fully push them into position. Without a proper cooking vessel sitting on the basket, the sensors don’t register that there is anything present.
Simply pull both baskets out and try pushing the problem one back into position. Listen carefully; you’ll hear the characteristic click when the basket locks into place. At this point the display may update to confirm that the basket is locked down. This is another common error because the seat sensor is so sensitive.
If replacing the fuse doesn’t do the trick, then you’re probably dealing with hardware failure. If you can’t get the filter to reset properly after cleaning the vents, cleaning the top, and reseating the basket, your next move is checking the fuses (the third reason).
There’s one for each zone in the unit, which means you have to open up the unit to inspect it. Opening it voids your warranty and must be done precisely.
Try to avoid this, but it might be your only solution if all else fails.
This involves taking apart the fryer, which means removing the cover (not an easy task) and using some tools and patience to get into it. Carefully remove the outer shell to show the inner wiring. At this point it can appear intimidating.
Each side have its own circuit path. You’ll want to identify what zone you are dealing with by tracing the wires to the main board where the fuse holder will be. Look closely because it might be tucked in with other components.
When you find it, check the fuse. Is it blown? If so, then it’s shot, and there’s no saving it. Replace it with one of the same rating.
For most people, this isn’t a dandy swap, as it takes some technical know-how. Don’t mess around with it unless you’re comfortabley tinkering with electronics.
Replace the fuse, and the “SHUT” might dissapears from your zone and restore power to that zone. Remember, these machines are mechanical beasts.
To summarize, inspect the basket seat, the back, and the top. And if that doesn’t work it’s probably a fuse. It’s a complicated repair or an easy one, there is no in between. To avoid any further problems keep the vents open and the top clean. You will have fewer headaches and more time.
