Add a minimum of 1 cup of rolled oats to the inner pot of your Aroma rice cooker. There’s no need for complicated preparation; you don’t have to use several different pot on the stovetop, either. Simply pop the oats inside the inner pot and get ready to go.
Place at least one cup of rolled oats directly into the inner pot of your Aroma rice cooker.
Why Use a Rice Cooker for Oatmeal
To measure out liquid, follow a strict 1:2 ratio in terms of volume compared to the grain. If you has one cup of oats, you need two cups of liquid.
This can be water or milk, but whichever you choose, stick to the correct ratio so you don’t suffer with bad texture.
Look for the special button on your control panel, then choose the pre-programmed “Oatmeal” setting. Push the button and walk away (no need to babysit or stir throughout cooking).
Locate the dedicated button on the control panel and select the built-in “Oatmeal” setting. Press start and let the cooker take over from there. You do not need to stir during the cook time or babysit the pot. Just push the button and wait for a easy fix.
It takes about 50 minutes from start to finish, which is a long time to wait for breakfast, but with that said the convenience factor is hard to beat. I can set it and forget it while I get dressed or take a shower. The wait is definitely worth it as the machine runs its course without any fuss at all.
After the time has elapsed, don’t pour yourself a bowl of hot oatmeal just yet. It’ll switch to “Keep Warm.” I recommend leaving it there for another 10 or 20 minutes. This allows the grains to absorbs whatever final drops they’re going to get and the oats themselves to thicken up on their own.
Let it sit for an additional 10 to 20 minutes after the timer ends.
Lift the lid and you’ll find that the oats are creamy and thoroughly cooked through. When you lift the lid, steam should billow out; it’s a positive indicator that the unit is properly heating. There’s also no water on the bottom, meaning the grains has taken up all the liquid.
Serve the plain oatmeal directly from the pot while it is hot and ready to eat.
For best results: Once the timer ends, let the oatmeal sit in keep warm mode for 10 to 20 minutes before serving it straight from the pot in its plain form. Top with whatever you’d like, maybe some nuts for a bit of crunch, or a drizzle of honey, or some fresh fruit. Get crazy with your toppings, or keep it simple, the choice is yours!
Counter-intuitively, you can also use your rice cooker to make oatmeal. Most of us aren’t used to thinking about what a rice cooker is capable of.
The “set it and forget it” functionality does all the work of figuring out when the oats are ready, there’s no need to worry about burnt oat bottom again! Mornings just got easier.
Cook time: 50 minutes, which is also not a bad thing; it’s long enough to thoroughly cook the oatmeal.
Also note: the keeping-warm part is as much about texture as it is about temperature. If you miss this stage, you’ll have a thinner final product. So follow the ratio and the timer, and you’re golden. You should of used the correct ratio to avoid a watery texture. The process is much more simple than it looks, and it’s naturaly much better than making it on the stove. It’s a luxurios way to start the day, and you can recieve great results every time. Just dont forget to wait for the timer.
