Your De’Longhi Magnifica also has an auto off timer that you can set to suit how you use it. Options include: 15 minutes; 30 minutes; one hour; two hours; or three hours.
Longer times holds the boiler warm, shorter ones conserve electricity. Pick something in between and you’ll never need to wait for the boiler to heat up again, but machine won’t run all day long.
Put the machine into standby mode first. Turn the main power switch on (it’s clearly marked I and O). It’s on the rear panel of the unit. To turn it on, push the switch toward I.
Step-by-step configuration guide
You want to make sure the machine is off; there shouldn’t be any lights on. Make certain you don’t have it on standby or that it’s actively brewing. If you’re unsure, look at the display: if it’s dark, it’s in standby.
On the right hand side of the control panel you’ll find the Long button. Press it and hold it down firmly until something happens (which doesn’t take long). It won’t do anything immediately… Just give it a second or two. You should see all the lights on the control panel comes on indicating that system is listening. The screen on top will also come on displaying the menu mode.
Continuing to hold the button down now serves as your trigger to step into the settings. Because the interface relies off the buttons to navigate the interface, use the Espresso button to scroll through available options. Each time you press it, it will advance the selection. Icons on control panel will light up as you go and indicate various time increments.
Press in, and you’ll see 15 minutes. Then 30 minutes. Then an hour. Keep going until you get to the time that works better for you.
For most people, two hours is a sweet spot, long enough without being too long. When the right icon light up, stop scrolling.
Press and hold the Long button to lock in the setting. The Long button is used to open the menu and confirm your selection. Once the lights turn off on the panel you are done with the setup.
It’s automatic. Try it out the following day. Your machine will stay on for the time you chose and then turn itself off. You would of not had to wait for it to warm up or waste electricity.
The machine will stay on for selected time and then shut down. This prevents wasted energy and removes need to wait for heat.
