Who doesn’t love fried chicken? It’s a favorite for so many people, including myself. With its crispy exterior and juicy chicken inside, each layer is delicious. However, this is only true if it’s prepared well.
Fried chicken can be just as easily bland and unappetizing as it can be amazing. It all depends on the cook and the recipe they follow.
If you want to make restaurant-quality fried chicken at home that’s so good you’ll savor every last crumb, here’s my take on this universally loved dish.

Ingredients
Crispy fried chicken may taste like magic, but it definitely isn’t as complicated. You won’t need a witch’s cauldron either, so you can put that back if it was already out. What you will need though, is all of this:
- 1 kilogram Chicken
- 1/2 tablespoon Black Pepper Powder
- 1 tablespoon of Red Chili Flakes
- 2 tablespoons Chicken Crispy Fried Masala
- 3 cups All Purpose Flour
- 1/2 cups Corn Flour
- 500 milliliter Cooking Oil
Yup, that’s it! You need very little to create something that’s definitely going to leave a big impression on your tastebuds. If you have everything, let’s get started immediately!
Instructions
The recipe I use can help you make crispy fried chicken within an hour at the longest, and that’s including the time it’ll take for the chicken to season! I won’t keep you waiting any longer than you have to, so let’s get started with the first step immediately.
- Create the Marinade: Sprinkle ½ tablespoons of black pepper on top of the 1 kilogram of chicken. Follow that up with 1 tablespoon of red chilli flakes and 2 tablespoons of chicken crispy fried masala. You can add more chilli flakes than that if you want the fried chicken extra spicy, which is what I tend to do when I want a little extra kick.
- Marinate the Chicken: Once the ingredients you combined in the last step are all mixed together, start covering the chicken with them. Use your hands to mix it all well. Make sure that it gets all over each piece of chicken. You’re all done with this step! You can just leave the chicken to sit for 30 minutes, which should be enough time for the seasoning to really seep in.
- Put the Chicken in Flour for Breading: Get a deep plate and put 3 cups of all purpose flour inside it. Make sure to add half a cup of corn flour to it as well. Once that mixture is ready, grab a piece of the marinated chicken and just toss it into the flour.
- Mix the Chicken with Breading: Get ready to get your hands dirty, because you’re going to be using them to mix the chicken. Get it all over the plate so that the chicken is completely coated by flour. Keep doing this gently for at least 3-4 minutes, as the flour will take that kind of time and care to really settle in. After that, dip the piece of chicken in cold water, and repeat the process.
- Heat Some Oil: Grab a pot and fill it with 500 milliliter of cooking oil. Wait until it heats up before adding anything to it though. Once it’s starting to bubble up, you know it’s ready.
- Add the Chicken to the Oil: After the oil is bubbling, start adding the pieces of coated chicken. But, do it gently. The oil will sizzle, and if you drop the pieces too fast, the oil will go everywhere. I’m sure you don’t want to fry your fingers with the chicken, so do everything carefully to avoid that.
- Cook Each Side of the Chicken: You’re almost done with the whole thing! Just fry each side for 7-9 minutes and you’ll know when the pieces are ready once they change colour and the breading is fried. Once that happens, turn the stove off and gently remove each piece. They’ll be really hot, so be careful.
- Enjoy: There you have it! Now that the chicken’s all fried, all you need is to pick your favorite sauce to go with the chicken.
Notes
- Crispy fried chicken is amazing on its own, but it can be so much better with the right sauce. That’s why I’ve included this optional bit so you can try out if you want an even better experience.
- I personally prefer sharper, spicier sauces with my fried chicken. This includes chilli garlic sauce, habanero sauce, or hot buffalo sauce. But, spice isn’t everyone’s thing.
- If you want something lighter, ranch sauce, coleslaw, and cream gravy are good options too. Melted cheese dips are also a good idea for people that love cheesy food.
- Keeping things simple, you can also just dip it in sauces like ketchup or BBQ sauce. There’s a lot of options, but the sauces I’ve mentioned are the usual simple ones that you can try with my recipe.
